Author: Junius Title: Letters of Junius
Description: London, Printed for the Booksellers by W. Bayne, Cupar, 1815. Leather. A copy of this collection of letters critical of the government of King George III from the anonymous "Junius". Scarce edition. A collection of private and open letters critical of the government of King George III from an anonymous polemicist, as well as other letters in-reply from people to whom Junius had written between 1769 and 1772. The pseudonym may have been chosen because the same author had already signed Lucius and Brutus to other works, and wished to exhaust the name of Lucius Junius Brutus, the Roman patriot who led the overthrow of the Roman monarchy. Claimed by some to be Philip Francis, an Irish-born British politician and pamphleteer, the true identity has never been formally verified. In the original full crushed morocco. Externally, sound with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine with the odd mark to the boards. Light loss to the extremities with deep cracks to the joints. Hinges tender. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with scattered spotting and light age toning. Good Only . Ill.: None. Good Only .
