Written by British writer and politician, Peter Beckford, who was a prominent member of the fox hunting community in England. As a very keen hunter, Beckford wrote 'Thoughts Upon Hunting', which received great popularity in the field and became a standard and timeless guide to the sport. 'Thoughts Upon Hunting' is written as a series of letters to a friend who is less versed with the sport, providing a number of tips on the many varied aspects. Illustrated with a plan and elevation of stables, both to the rear of the work. Lacking the frontispiece. With the bookplate of 'Vive ut Vivas' and ink inscriptions of Charles J Coles, 1867, and A. Wykeham Musg---, dated 1911. Bound in half calf with paper-covered boards. Externally, very good, with light rubbing to the extremities and joints. Paper lifting slightly to extremities of rear board. Hinges are a touch strained, but holding firm. Bookplate to front paste down with ink inscriptions to front endpaper. Endpapers renewed. Internally, firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean. Lacking frontispiece. Light tide mark causing slight discolouration to plates. Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Good .
