Signed with an inscription from the publisher, Thomas Fisher Unwin, an English publisher who founded the publishing house of T. Fisher Unwin, and known for his support of progressive causes. His wife Jane Cobden was a leading suffragist and daughter of radical Liberal politician Richard Cobden. In presentation to William Douglas Weir, 1st Viscount Weir, a Scottish industrialist and politician, who joined the Air Council in November 1917 and became its President in April 1918, resigning in December that year after the end of the war. For his efforts he received the Distinguished Service Medal. The inscription reads: " To Sir William Weir from T. Fisher Unwin. In Memoriam The Raids October 1917. 3 Adelphi Terrace." Illustrated with a frontispiece and twenty-six plates. Collated complete. A detailed history of the Adelphi Theatre, a West End theatre in London. With details of its founding in 1806 as the Sans Pareli or "Without Compare", the influence of the Society of Arts, and the Strand and its surrounding neighbourhood. Written by Austin Brereton, an English drama critic and theatre manager. In the original blue cloth binding. Externally, smart with minor bumping to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound.
