Douglas references Wilde's book 'The Portrait of Mr. W. H', which was his attempt to uncover the identity of the dedicatee in his work. Although known to have been Wilde's lover, Douglas' embrace of Catholicism led to a rejection of homosexuality, this being clear in his disagreement of theories that Mr. W.
