Two signed very scarce first edition works bound together. The British Library suggests these two works were typically issued together.Signed to the front pastedown 'from the author to Edw.d. Betham, August 1848&apos.An inscription beneath this reads 'Charles Jepson Betham, with love and best wishes from his affect. mother - C.B. Lincoln, July 22 1880&apos.The author of these two works, however, remains anonymous, and has not been identified by the British Library.The first of these two works, dated 1840-1848, is titled 'A Survey of the Antiquities of the City of Lincoln', and is illustrated with an engraved frontispiece and twelve further plates, one of which is trimmed and mounted.The second work, dated 1848, is titled 'The Stranger's Guide through Lincoln Cathedral', and is illustrated with three plates.Rebacked, retaining the original endpapers.Two very scarce works, signed by their author, describing the city of Lincoln and its chief antiquities. Rebacked, with the publisher's original cloth covered boards. Retaining the original endpapers. A touch of fraying to back strip head, otherwise externally excellent. Handling marks to paper label at front board. Author's inscription and contemporary owner inscription to front pastedown. Extensive pencil inscriptions from a prior owner to front free endpaper.
