'Letters from High Latitudes' is a travel book from British public servant and prominent member of the Victorian society, Lord Dufferin. It tells of his journey to Iceland, Jan Mayen and Spitzbergen in the schooner Foam. The book became extremely successful due to its lively and witty commentary, with some regarding it as the prototype of the comic travelogue. Illustrated with a frontispiece, and ten monochrome plates, one of which is folding. With a folding chart and three maps to the rear, two of which are folding. Collated, complete. With a sixteen-page catalogue of publisher's advertisements to the rear. In the original cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. With notable rubbing, bumping and marks to the extremities. With scattered discolouration to the cloth. Bookplate of one Frank T. Paul to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound.
