Written by John Drinkwater, an English poet and dramatist, known before World War I as one of the Dymock poets. Illustrated by Ernest Howard Shepard, an English artist and book illustrator best known for illustrations of the anthropomorphic animal and soft toy characters in The Wind in the Willows and Winnie-the-Pooh. In the original orange paper wraps. Externally, smart with light rubbing and chipping to the extremities resulting in minor loss. Light sunning to the spine with the odd small closed tear to the panel edges. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Minor residue from a removed bookplate to the front pastedown.
