A collection of articles from the 1894 issue of Good Words, a nineteenth-century monthly periodical directed at evangelicals and nonconformists, particularly of the lower middle classes. It included overtly religious material, but also fiction and non-fiction articles on general subjects, including science, with the standard for content being that the devout should be able to read it on Sundays without sin. It became known as a "fireside read", which could be shared and enjoyed by adults, servants and masters. This issue contains articles and stories entitled: Kitty Alone, The Great Astronomers, The City of the White Walls, Miss Mitford and "Our Village", and Wanted a House, amongst others. Edited by Donald Macleod, a Scottish author and the brother of Norman Macleod, a Scottish clergyman and author who was the periodical's first editor. Bound in full modern black cloth. Externally, excellent. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting throughout. The odd small crease or small closed tear to the page edges. Very Good Indeed .
