Among medieval Christian theologians, Trajan was considered a virtuous pagan. In dealing with and prosecuting Christians, he acted typically in the interests of justice, and to reflect "the spirit of the age" enforcing the rule that Christians who refused to recant were to be executed "for obstinacy". Bound in quarter calf with marbled boards. Externally, sound with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine with the odd mark to the boards. Front hinge tender.
