Savory' as he was referred in the first impression.The first issue of the novel was suppressed by Heinemann in response to J.B. Priestley's threat of libel due to his belief that the character of "Q.C. Savory" was too obviously a caricature of himself. 'Stamboul Train' was the second significant novel published by Greene, taking place on a train journey from Ostend to Istanbul. A notable novel, it's described as melodramatic and thrilling, written to please the public after a couple of unsuccessful novels.Greene was one of the most popular authors of the twentieth century, known for his works 'Brighton Rock', 'The End of the Affair&apos.With the bookplate of Margaret Buskell, dated 1932, to the front pastedown. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Light shelf wear to back strip tail, with bump to back strip head. Spotting to fore edge of text block. Front hinge strained, and slightly tender.
