The first planisphere is thought to have been made in 1624, by German astronomer Jacob Bartsch. The days and months of the year are marked on the outer portion of the work, with the constellations visible at a particular date and time visible through the elliptical plastic aperture in the overlay.Moving portions are in full working order.A small hole to the head of the work appears to indicate that this planisphere was intended to be used as a decorative wall hanging. In the publisher's original binding, with two paper covered boards connected by a metal stud and thus revolving, and with a plastic aperture to the front board. Spotting to front board, which is lightly age toned. Small 1" closed tear to the plastic. Moving parts in full working order. Light handling marks to head and tail of rear board. Very Good Indeed .
