The novel was immediately well received, and is often credited as marking the beginnings of realistic fiction as a literary genre, and as a contender for the position of first English novel.Defoe was a prolific and versatile writer, producing hundreds of works on diverse topics including politics, crime, religion, marriage and the supernatural, but is best remembered for this work.Undated; dated 1864 via the British Library. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail. Ink marks to centre of front board, and perimeters of rear board. Hinges strained, and somewhat tender. Internally, binding strained throughout. Pages lightly age toned due to paper type, with handling marks and instances of spotting throughout.
