Built in 1385 by Sir Edward Dalyngrigge, a former knight of Edward III, with the permission of Richard II, to defend the area against French invasion during the Hundred Years' War.Written by George Nathaniel Curzon, 1st Marquess Curzon of Kedleston, a prominent British statesman, Conservative politician and writer who served as Viceroy of India from 1899 to 1905.With a letter to W. H. Jarvis Esq. on Great Western Railway company headed paper from "The Staff". In the original blue cloth binding. Externally, very smart with minor wear to the extremities and light rubbing. Original unclipped dust wrapper is also smart with light wear and the odd small closed tear to the extremities. Minor sunning to the spine and the odd small mark to the panels.
