Widely known in academic circles, including the Bloomsbury group, Lowes spent a large portion of his career lecturing at Cambridge University. 'A Modern Symposium' records a discussion between a group of men at the Seekers Club, which was a well-known gentlemen's club regularly frequented by politicians and academics. In this discussion, the group is comprised of a professor, politicians, a journalist, a poet, and others, who all discuss their political ideologies and thoughts on society. With three pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear. With the morocco bookplate of W.A. Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey to the front pastedown. William Foyle founded Foyles bookshop in 1903 alongside his brother. He purchased Beeleigh Abbey during the Second World War, an impressive twelfth century monastery in Essex. Beeleigh housed his library, one of the largest private libraries in England. Bound in full calf. Externally, very smart indeed, with light bumping to the extremities and a little rubbing to the joints. Leather has darkened slightly to the spine and extremities, with the odd mark.
