Published in the same year as the first edition.In full calf binding. Both volumes illustrated with a monochrome portrait frontispiece.This set contains a collection of letters originally belonging to John Johnson, a close friend of the English poet and Anglican hymnwriter, William Cowper. The letters capture Cowper's playfulness and humour as he corresponds with several of his most intimate friends.  In full calf binding. Externally, generally smart. With rubbing to the extremities, heaviest wear to the spines. Light chipping to the spine head of Vol I. Leather to spine head of Vol II may chip with further handling. Heavy scattered marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright with the occasional spotting throughout, heaviest to the first and last few leaves.
