This set also includes the uncommon seventh volume, which was published to contain a facsimile list of subscriber's autographs, with a full list of subscribers to the index.Each volume is adorned with a frontispiece, illustrative title page and thirty-eight colour plates by Alexander Francis Lydon, coloured by Benjamin Fawcett. Descriptions of the county seats, including their history and context behind specific design features, are provided by the Rev. Francis O. Morris, an Anglo-Irish clergyman. He was most notable as an ornithologist and as the author of many children's books, as well as books on natural history and heritage buildings.Morris, Lydon and Fawcett continuously collaborated together, with Morris and Fawcett's relationship in particular having a profound effect on British ornithology. In the original uniform decorative cloth bindings. Externally, very smart with rubbing and bumping to the extremities, heaviest to the spines. Tide marks to the rear boards and spines of Vol I, V and VI. Light marks to the boards. Internally, generally firmly bound. Front free endpapers are disbound but present to Vol VII. Pages are generally bright and clean. Offsetting caused by the plates affecting the opposing leaves to Vol I.
