Bound by Worsfold in a smart half calf with marbled paper-covered boards. With a letter tipped-in from the author to John Dawson Mayne, discussing the contents of the work, as well as numerous other books. Mayne was a British lawyer and legal expert, known for his authorship of a number of legal works. With Mayne's bookplate to the front paste down. This series of lectures surround the meaning and nature of Ultimate Reality, with the first six entitled 'The Meaning of Reality', while the subsequent four detail 'The Criticism of Categories&apos. The second series of lectures, from 1903-04 explore the 'Finite' and 'Absolute' mind.Illustrated with two portraits. With the morocco bookplate of W.A. Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey to the front pastedown. William Foyle founded Foyles bookshop in 1903 alongside his brother. He purchased Beeleigh Abbey during the Second World War, an impressive twelfth century monastery in Essex. Beeleigh housed his library, one of the largest private libraries in England.With a note detailing the composition of the lectures loosely inserted. Bound in a smart half calf with marbled paper-covered boards. Externally, excellent, with light rubbing to the extremities, joints and spine. Partial loss to spine label to volume II. A small crack to the head of the front joints to II. Hinges are a touch strained, but holding firm. Bookplates to front paste down and endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
