He purchased Beeleigh Abbey during the Second World War, an impressive twelfth century monastery in Essex. Beeleigh housed his library, one of the largest private libraries in England. In half morocco signed bindings, with marbled paper covered boards. Externally, excellent, with light fading to back strips. Front hinges, and head and tails of rear hinges, strained, but firmly held. Morocco bookplates to front pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, with instances of light spotting throughout, most concentrated to first and last few leaves, and page perimeters. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
