Author: Graham Greene Title: Stamboul Train
Description: London, William Heinemann Ltd, 1932 . First edition. Cloth. An excellent copy of the first edition, second impression of Graham Greene's second important novel, set on a long train journey. The first edition, second impression of this work; the character is referred to as Mr. Quin Savory on pages 77, 78, 82, 98, and 131, rather than 'W. C. Savory' as he was referred in the first impression. After reading a review copy, J. B. Priestley became convinced that the the pompous character of Savory was based on himself, and threatened a libel suit and to leave Heinemann. Changes were hence made. The first issue is indeed rarely seen as only few copies of the uncorrected text were circulated and even less survive today. 'Stamboul Train' was the second significant novel published by Greene, taking place on a train journey from Ostend to Istanbul. A notable novel, it's described as melodramatic and thrilling, written to please the public after a couple of unsuccessful novels. Greene was one of the most popular authors of the twentieth century, known for his works 'Brighton Rock', 'The End of the Affair' and 'Our Man in Havana&apos. Bound in the publisher's original cloth, without the dust wrapper. With the ink inscription of H. B. Newboult. Bound in the publisher's original black cloth.
