D. Oliver to a front blank of volume I.With the morocco bookplate of W.A. Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey to the front pastedown of each volume. William Foyle founded Foyles bookshop in 1903 alongside his brother. He purchased Beeleigh Abbey during the Second World War, an impressive twelfth century monastery in Essex. Beeleigh housed his library, one of the largest private libraries in England. In a half calf signed binding, with gilt detailing to back strip, and cloth covered boards. Back strips a touch age toned, with boards bright. Bookplates to front pastedowns. Former owner's inscription to a front blank of volume I. Internally, firmly bound.
