He purchased Beeleigh Abbey during the Second World War, an impressive twelfth century monastery in Essex. Beeleigh housed his library, one of the largest private libraries in England. In half morocco signed bindings, with cloth covered boards. Back strips age toned, as is common with blue morocco. Minor marks to head of 'Corot' boards. Bookplates to front pastedowns.
