A later edition, first published in 1825-26, with an excerpt from this work being published previously as a novella in 1802. Bound in half calf with marbled paper to the boards. Written in French. This romance novel was written by the French writer, politician and historian Francois-Rene de Chateaubriand, a highly influential literary figure in France in the nineteenth century. The novel was written during his exile and tells a story involving the the Natchez people, a Native American group living in the Natchez Bluffs in the Mississippi Valley. He was inspired by his time with the tribe during a trip to America, where he broke his arm and had to spend a month with the tribe while healing. Bound in half calf with marbled paper to the boards. Externally generally smart with rubbing to the boards, extremities and joints, a marks to the front board, fading to the spine and bumping to the extremities. Bookplate to the front pastedown with minimal offsetting to the extremities of the endpapers with light spotting. A past owner's signature to the front free endpaper. Internally firmly bound with bright pages and scattered spotting throughout. Good . Ill.: None. Good .
