Four works bound in one.An interesting volume of four medical works focusing on hydrotherapy. Each work is in German, and all but the final title are printed in black letter. Hydrotherapy was a popular medical cure in Germany, after the 'nature cure movement' spread across Europe in the early nineteenth century. All of these works were published during the boom of the cure's popularity.The author of the first work in this volume, Johann Siegmund Hahn, is considered to be the cofounder of the cure in Germany. He published this incredibly popular work in 1738, in which he explores his own personal research of hydrotherapy, as well as that of earlier domestic and foreign researchers. This volume contains;'Unterricht von Krafft und Würckung des Frischen Wassers', by Johann Siegmund Hahn. Published in Weimer in 1839. A scarce work. Illustrated with a frontispiece.'Genaue Beschreibung der Grafenberger Wasserheilanstalt und der Priessnitz Ischen Curmethode', by Carl Munde. Published in Leipzig in 1838. An uncommon work. Munde was a hydropath who fled Germany after the March Revolution, and subsequently fled to the U.S. where he founded a clinic in Massachusetts. 'Die Wasserheilkunde, Oder Wissenschaftliche Darstellung der Wirkungs- und Gebrauchsweise', by Eduard Hlawaczek. Published in Prague in 1837. A scarce work. Illustrated with two folding tables. Hlawaczek was a spa doctor from the the Czech spa city Karlovy Vary, he opened a practice in the city which he operated for 45 years.'Aerztliche Winke fur Brunnen- und Badegäste', by Joseph-Adolf Frankl. Published in Berlin and Prague in 1836. A very scarce work. In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, a little rubbed. Minor bumping to the extremities. A couple of light marks to the boards. Bookseller's label to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned with some scattered spots. Very Good . Ill.: Not Stated.
