Collated from Jisc from a copy held at the University of York Libraries.'The Lamplighter' is an incredibly popular sentimental novel by American author Maria Susanna Cummins, her name misspelt as 'Cumming' to the title page of this volume. First published in 1854, this novel sold 20,000 copies in twenty days. It went on to sell 65,000 copies within the first five months of publications.This novel is a Bildungsroman, following an orphan who is rescued from her abusive home by a lamplighter. By Maria Susanna Cummins, who is best known for this work. In a half crushed morocco binding with marbled paper to the boards, bound by F. Bedford. Externally, fine. Internally, firmly bound.
