Collated, complete.The plates etched by James Girtin appear to have been first published in the scarce 1817 work 'Seventy-Five Portraits of Celebrated Painters, from Authentic Originals' by John Girtin.This work includes portraits and short biographies of individuals including Andrea Sacchi, John Van Eyck, William Dobson and Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti.Undated; dated circa 1877 via an institutional record.With a loosely inserted letter, dated 1893, from 'publisher and discount bookseller' Charles Taylor, addressed to one Rev. H. D. McNamara, asking 'will you do me the favour of accepting the enclosed volume of etched portraits of celebrated painters as a little kindly remembrance' for 'the very great interest you have always taken on my behalf&apos. In a full calf binding. Lacking back strip. Major rubbing to boards, most concentrated to board perimeters. Scorch marks to tails of boards. Boards tenderly held by cords only. Internally, firmly bound. Light spotting to title page, with faint tide marks to very head of the majority of leaves. The odd instance of light handling marks.
