Pennant (1726-1798) was a Welsh naturalist, and consequently, he describes the landscapes and wildlife of Scotland in vivid detail. At the time, Scotland was a relatively unexplored country, particularly from a natural history perspective. In half calf bindings. Externally sound. Cracked joints to volume I, leaving the front hinge tender, held by one cord, and the rear hinge strained, but firmly held by cords. Front boards to volumes II and III are detached but intact; the rear joints to these volumes are cracked, but the hinges are firmly held by cords. Rubbed to the extremities and joints, with a small loss to the head of the backstrip to volume I. Shelf wear to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for offsetting to the first few pages. Large closed tear to folding map of volume II. Pages 11-14 detached from volume II but remain intact. Good Only .
