The very scarce first edition of the work.Signed by the author to the title page.An interesting satirical Utopian work, based on a fictional island in the Pacific, called Toddle Island. The work is a fictional account of the diaries of Lord Bottesford and reflects the Socialist viewpoint of the author. Dennis Hird was a British clergyman, first principal of Ruskin College and author. Hird often battled his religious and academic positions with his staunch socialist beliefs; indeed he was sacked from his position as first principal of Ruskin College, Oxford due to his Nationalist and Socialist views. His removal lead to a student strike, with Hird then becoming warden of the Central Labour College, which was established by trade unions. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally smart, with slight bumping to the extremities and the head and tail of the spine. Internally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with just the odd spot.
