The very scarce first edition of this work.The work of English wit and man of letters Edward Dubois.Dubois wrote this in response to the popularity seen by Sir John Carr's travel work 'The Stranger in Ireland&apos.Carr was angered by this satire, and its publishers were prosecuted. The case came before Lord Ellenborough and a special jury, and the judge summed up in favour of the publishers.1808 saw the publication of 'Old Nick's Pocket-Book', written in ridicule of Dubois, by a friend of Carr.With the inscription of Tho. Charles to the title page head.A highly entertaining and very scarce first edition. In a half calf binding, with marbled paper covered boards. Blind tooling and gilt detailing to back strip. Significant rubbing to joints. Front hinge strained, but firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages age toned, with significant spotting throughout. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
