There have been many different translations and adaptations to this novel over the years, with opera, film, ballet and other art versions created. Published by James Burns, who was particularly keen on the sagas of Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué, publishing eight volumes of them. Illustrated by English artist John Tenniel, with ten illustrations and an engraved title page. Collated, complete. Bound in the publisher's original red cloth. Externally, very good, with light bumping to the extremities and the occasional mark to cloth. Small tears and light fraying to the cloth at the head and tail of the spine. Bookseller label to the front paste down. Internally, generally firmly bound, with binding a little tender in places, page 13-14 loose but present. Pages are bright, with the odd spot.
