Few copies of this issue were circulated, as another publisher claimed copyright for two of the stories.This wonderful volume collects nineteen short stories, a number of which were subsequently dramatized by the author, the Gilbert of the Victorian era theatrical partnership 'Gilbert and Sullivan&apos.The collection includes 'Rosencrantz and Guildenstern,' acomic deconstruction of Hamlet and a possible source of Tom Stoppard's popular play 'Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead.' Other tales, including "Foggerty's Fairy", "Creatures of Impulse" and "The Wicked World" were also adapted to the stage.With the bookplate of the South African Public Library, Cape Town, to the front pastedown, and library stamps and markings to the recto and verso of the title page, and to the head of chapter I. With an advertisement leaf to the rear. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Fading to back strip, with bumping to back strip head and tail. Significant handling marks to front board. Small areas of paper residue to rear board. Hinges strained, but firmly held. Library bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Library stamps to recto and verso of title page, and to head of chapter I.
