The early life of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, or Mahatma Gandhi, an Indian lawyer, anti-colonial nationalist and political ethicist who employed nonviolent resistance to lead the successful campaign for India's independence from British rule. This work explores his life rom his birth in 1869, through his education, to the beginning of his civil rights activism in 1914. Written by Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Edited by his personal secretary, Mahadeo Haribhai Desai, an Indian independence activist, scholar and writer. In the original paper wraps. Externally, sound with wear and light chipping to the extremities. Minor loss to the head and tail of the spine with cracks to the joints. A tear to the spine resulting in pages 97 to 115 and the rear board being held by a small part of the wrap, likely to detach with further handling. Marks and ink notes to the boards. Internally, generally firmly bound with the odd page loosening. Pages are very bright with the odd spot or ink mark. British museum stamp to the first and last page, with cancelled stamp covering.
