The scarce first edition of this guide to Manchester and Salford, providing an interesting insight into the cities in the Georgian era. The first edition of this scarce work.Illustrated with a folding map to the frontispiece, which illustrates the improvements and additions made in the city since the year 1770. A detailed guide to the cities of Manchester and Salford, in which the author studies the vast history of the cities, as well as looking into the public buildings and the charitable and literary institutions that were in the cities in the Georgian era.This work was printed and published by Joseph Aston, authorship is sometimes attributed to him. Aston was a journalist, dramatist, and miscellaneous writer who grew up in Manchester. Collated, lacking the front endpaper, but otherwise complete. In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, rubbed. Rubbing has resulting in loss of leather to the head of the front board. A small amount of loss to the head of the spine. Minor bumping to the extremities. Front hinge is starting but firm. Lacking the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with some scattered spots. Repairs to the folding map. Title page is detaching. Repair to the head of the preface, to the tail of page 23/24. The occasional pencil note to the text. Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Good .
