William Cowper (1731-1800) was the one of the foremost poets of the eighteenth century. Cowper's poetry was characterised through his detailed descriptions of rural life, his concern for the poor and downtrodden, and the startling simplicity of language. He had great influence on the later generation of Romantic poets. With a brief biography of Cowper to the front of the text, this collection includes his best-known poems, such as 'The Task', and also his translations. Contains an account of Cowper's pet hare. In a full morocco binding. Externally, generally smart, with rubbing to the spine and extremities. Internally, firmly bound.
