Ten volumes of a sixteen volume set. Lacking volumes eleven to sixteen. Limited to seven hundred and seventy-five copies of which this is number thirty-two. The works of George Henry Borrow, an English writer of novels and of travel based on personal experiences in Europe. This set includes: The Bible in Spain, volumes I and II. A travel book telling of the author's travels through Spain while working as a Bible salesman in 18351838, during the Carlist Civil War, where he encountered much opposition from the Roman Catholic Church and politicians. Lavengro, volumes I and II. Settled between a memoir and novel, following George, the son of an officer in a militia regiment, who takes to the road as a tinker and often associates with Romany travellers, of whom he gives memorable and generally sympathetic pen-portraits. It follows the journey of a learned young man living with Romanies and is considered a philosophical adventure story. Songs, Poems and Ballads, volumes I, II, and III. A collection of songs, romantic ballads, miscellaneous verses, and poems. The Zincali. A story exploring the living and culture of the Romani people, particularly in Spain, with a dictionary of the Romani language or list of vocabulary to the end of the text.
