An exceptionally scarce, first edition of this historical work on The Maison Royale de Saint-Louis, a boarding school set up for girls at Saint-Cyr. A first edition of this very scarce work, bound in quarter morocco with marbled boards. Written by Paul de Noailles, the 6th Duke of Noailles, who was a French nobleman and historian. This interesting historical work documents the background of The Maison Royale de Saint-Louis, which was a girls boarding school founded in 1686 at Saint-Cyr. The school was established by King Louis XIV at the request of his second wife, Francoise d'Aubigne, who wanted to create a school for girls who came from impoverished noble families. The school remained open until 1803. With two illustrations to the front of the work depicting a commemorative medallion marking the foundation of the school. Collated, complete. Bound in quarter morocco with marbled boards. Externally, very good, with slight rubbing to the extremities and the odd mark. Spine is a little faded. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with the occasional handling mark. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
