The uncommon first edition of this work, bound in half calf bindings. Volume I, II and IV. Lacking Volume III. James Hogg (1770-1835) was a Scottish poet, novelist and essayist. As a young man he worked as a shepherd and farmhand, and he consequently became known as the 'Ettrick Shepherd', a nickname under which some of his works were published. Comprised of Hogg's poetical works, with Volume I containing 'The Queen's Wake', Volume II containing 'Midsummer Night Dreams' and volume IV containing 'Mador of the Moor', sacred melodies, miscellaneous poems, and songs. With an ink inscription from a previous owner to volume I. In a half calf binding with marbled boards. Externally, very good, with rubbing to the extremities and boards. Spine labels to volume I is lifting a little. Bookseller label to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean, with the occasional spotting, mainly to the first and last pages. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
