Hadleigh Farm is still a functioning educational farm, established by the Salvation army in 1891. The U.S. colonies include the Fort Amity farming colony, organised by the Army in 1898.This is an interesting study on the work of the Salvation Army at the end of the Victorian era and beginning of the twentieth century, an era in which they established these farming communities to bring poor families from the city to a community in which they could thrive and trade.
