The term typically referred to marriages which took place in London's Fleet Prison or its surrounding area during the seventeenth and early eighteenth century.A leaf inserted prior to the title page bears the armorial bookplate of English balloonist, lawyer, and politician Robert Hollond.With the stamp 'Literary Union' to the head of the title page and head of 'Chapter I' leaf.With an advertisement leaf to the rear.This popular work reaches a third edition by 1846. In a full calf binding, with gilt detailing to back strip. Light rubbing to joints and back strip. Rear hinge starting, with board firmly held. Front hinge strained, but holding firm. Former owner's bookplate leaf inserted prior to the title page. Internally, firmly bound. Light spotting to title page, with pages otherwise exceptionally bright.
