This set is uncommon to find in this edition.John Dryden (1631-1700) was an English poet, literary critic, translator, and playwright who was appointed England's first Poet Laureate in 1668. He dominated the literary scene of Restoration England to such a point that the period became known as the Age of Dryden. With a four-page catalogue of books printed by Robert and Andrew Foulis to the rear of Volume I. In full calf bindings. Externally generally smart, with a little rubbing to the extremities and to the head and tail of the spine. Half of the spine label to Volume I is detached but intact, and kept inside the front of Volume I for safe-keeping. Small loss of leather to the head of the spine of Volume II.
