Mrs. Hylton Dale [Marianne Dale] - Child Labor Under Capitalism

Title: Child Labor Under Capitalism
Description: London, The Fabian Society, 1908. First edition. Paperback. A scarce Fabian Tract exploring the history of child labour and arguing for reforms to prevent future child labour. The first edition of this scarce work in the publisher's original paper wraps. The Fabian Society is a British socialist organisation created to advance the principles of social democracy and democratic socialism. This organisation has had a powerful influence on British politics, particularly on the Labour Party. Prominent members include George Bernard Shaw, H. G. Wells, Ramsay MacDonald and Emmeline Pankhurst. The Fabian Society was formed in 1884, and this was one of its earliest pamphlets, Fabian Tract No. 140 published in 1908. It explores the use of child labour in England from the Industrial Revolution in the late eighteenth century until the Children's Act of 1908, and lists immediate reforms for the Fabian Society to work for. It also recommends further reading material on the subject. In the publisher's original paper wraps. Externally generally smart, though the wraps are detached from the main text. Some spotting to the wraps, and small holes to the rear of the wraps probably due to insect damage. These holes do not affect the text, and the wraps remain intact. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd spot. Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Good .
