Rider Haggard concerns the greedy, wealthy owner of a publishing house, Mr. Meeson, who is shipwrecked with several others on one of the Kerguelen Islands. The second half of the book concerns a court battle, involving Mr. Meeson's Will, which is tattooed onto the back of Augusta Smithers. With a thirty-two page publisher's catalogue to the rear. All issue points correspond with Scott, 9a. In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Externally generally smart, with fading to the spine and shelf wear to the head and tail of the spine. Small mark to the front board and spine. Rear hinge is starting but held firmly. Binding is slightly strained between page 240 and 241, but held firmly by cords.
