Published as part of Sir William Jardine's Naturalist's Library, which covered a variety of topics relating to the natural world. Jardine was a Scottish naturalist, best known for this particular series. Edited by Jardine, although this volume was written by fellow ornithologist and entomologist, William John Swainson. This particular volume was on the subject of ornithology, more specifically relating to the natural history of the birds of Western Africa. Part II of II. With a memoir of French explorer, author and naturalist, Le Vaillant. Illustrated with thirty-two colour plates, a coloured illustrated title page, and a portrait of Le Vaillant. Collated, complete. In a half calf binding with marbled boards. Externally, very smart, with light rubbing to the boards and joints. Previous owner's ink inscription to the verso of the front endpaper.
