This volume provides a concise look at the village, which was first named as 'Ticheshale' in the Domesday Book. The village was home of the Aston family, who came to notoriety during the Popish Plot, as the village was the centre of an alleged conspiracy to kill King Charles II.Sir Thomas Clifford was a topographer and botanist, who contributed an appendix to this work titled 'Flora Tixalliana&apos.Written alongside his brother, Arthur Clifford, a fellow antiquarian who searched Tixall for the papers of Walter, Lord Aston, who was ambassador in Spain during the reigns of James I and Charles I.Armorial bookplate to the front paste down. In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, a little worn, with some rubbing to the boards and spine. Joints are starting. Loss to the head and tail of the spine. Small ink mark to the tail of the front joint. Spine is a little faded. Some light marks to the boards. Lacking the spine label. Hinges are tender. Bookplate and two bookseller's slips to the front paste down, one bookseller slip and ink inscription to the verso of the front endpaper, and two booksellers slips to the recto of the rear endpaper.
