Possibly Boothby's most sensational work, amongst many sensational works, this involves a reanimated black magician who sets loose a plague.The author Guy Newell Boothby (1867-1905) was a prolific Australian novelist and writer, notable for his sensational fiction printed in magazines in the late nineteenth century. He is best known for his Dr Nikola series, and for this novel.With eight pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, generally smart with shelf wear to the joints, spine and extremities. Gilt is a little faded. Hinges are starting but the boards are firmly held. Remnants of a label to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright with the odd spot. Plate facing page 180 is detached but intact. Very Good . Ill.: John H. Bacon.
