He undertook his journey intending to discover the sources of the River Nile. He proved that the Nile sediment came from Ethiopia.This work looks into the their search for the source of the Nile.Written by Samuel Baker, who is best known for being the first European to visit Lake Albert. He was an abolitionist, engineer, and big game hunter, and he was the Governor-general of the Equatorial Nile Basin in the nineteenth century. Though he was renowned for being an explorer, he never received quite the same amount of acclamation that his contemporaries did. Queen Victoria refused to meet Baker, due to the way in which he met his wife; he had bought his wife, Florence, as a slave after they had fallen in love.Newspaper clipping to the recto of the tissue guard for the frontispiece, a 1915 clipping detailing the death of Lady Baker. In a rebacked cloth binding, with the original boards and spine restored. Externally, generally smart. Light marks and rubbing to the boards, a little heavier to the spine. Minor bumping to the extremities. Gilt to the front board is a little rubbed. Spine is faded. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with some scattered spots, mostly to the first and last few pages. Plate facing page 484 is detached but present, other plates are working loose a litte. Light edge wear to the plates. Good . Ill.: Various. Good .
