They were intended to be kept in one's pocket, or close to one's person, to be referenced at any time desired. Ink inscription of William Spender to the title page, dated 1793. In a full calf binding with the original wraparound pocket to the fore edge, lacking the additional leather strap to the rear board. Externally, generally smart, with a little light rubbing and a few light marks. A few small puncture marks to the rear board. Front hinge is starting but firm, rear hinge is a little strained. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto of the front free endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and clean. Front blank and title page are detaching a small amount from the tail. Prior owner's ink inscription to the title page. Good . Ill.: None. Good .
