The castle was expanded in the 13th and 14th centuries, and, after the Norman Conquest, was appropriated by the Archbishop of Canterbury Lanfranc. Written by Harry Enterprise. Bound in contemporary quarter cloth with paper covered boards, with the original paper wraps bound in. Externally, smart with rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. The odd small mark to the board. Front hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting particularly to the first and last few pages.
