An important early Scottish work on Palladian architectureIllustrated with forty-eight plates, five of which are folding.An extensive treatise on architecture, looking at the rudimentary basis of the subject in both a practical and theoretical manner.The work explores the design and building of various features in architecture, including porticoes, windows, columns, twisted rails, roods, and more, as well as offering advice of surveying land, geometry, and trigonometry. The final sixteen pages contain the builder's directory. Collated, lacking plate XI. In the original paper covered boards. Externally, worn, with a tide mark to the rear board. Smaller tide marks to the front board. Loss and lifting of paper to the spine and extremities. Spine is age-toned. Hinges are a little strained but remain firm. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with some scattered spots.
