Baxter and Leonora Jeffrey Rintoul. The two ornithologists often worked together, co- writing other works such as 'Birds of Scotland&apos. Both women were upstanding ornithologists with Baxter being the first women to receive the 'Union Medal of the British Ornithological Union' and Rintoul being a member of the 'Royal Society of Edinburgh', which was rare for women at the time. This work provides a study of Scottish birds, documenting their status in various locations to determine if the birds were visitors to the area, migrating, breading or natives. In the publisher's original cloth with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally excellent with bumping to the tail of the spine and to the extremities to the boards and slight marks to the rear. Very light scattered spotting to the endpapers. The wrap is very smart with sunning to the spine, handling marks, chipping and the odd small closed tear. Internally firmly bound with generally bright and clean pages with the odd minor spot only.
