Borrow also provides a dictionary of the Romani language, a language he spoke fluently. The Bible in Spain was a popular travel work when it was first published in 1843. This is the sixteenth impression. Borrow provides an account of his travels through Spain while working as a Bible salesman between 1835 and 1838. The activities of the Bible Society, and Borrow's work on its behalf, encountered much opposition from the Roman Catholic Church. It includes the notes and glossary of Ulick Ralph Burke.10 pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear of The Zincali. In the publisher's original cloth bindings. Externally, smart with fading to the spine of The Zincali, and light shelf wear to the extremities and head and tail of the spine to both volumes.
